Aberdeen-based Dolphin Drilling has commissioned Harland and Wolff to carry out drydock repairs for its Blackford Dolphin rig.
The semi-submersible rig, last upgraded in 2008, will go into dock in Belfast in November for a 50-day refit.
The giant rig will require Harland and Wolff to relocate its cranes to accommodate the platform while work is under way.
It has spent the last three years in Brazil. Once the refit is complete the rig will carry out drilling for MPX in the North Sea before heading west of Ireland to drill an appraisal well on Cairn Energy’s Spanish Point prospect.
“As a major player in the offshore drilling market, we recognise the importance of this project to Dolphin and their customers,” said H&W project manager James Lappin.
“Prior to the rig arrival, we will have a dedicated team working in conjunction with Dolphin, planning every aspect of the workscope to ensure all the equipment, manpower, sub-contractors, materials and components are ready and available.”
