Offshore engineering group Technip has landed a deal to provide front-end engineering and design work for the expansion of a LNG plant in the USA.
The Lake Charles terminal, which is due to be completed next year, will see the French-based group working on the front-end design work of the site, which will be able to export up to 15million tonnes a year.
“Adding liquefaction capabilities to the existing infrastructure would provide the option of switching from regasification to liquefaction, depending on the world market for LNG,” said Technip’s US vice president David Dickson.
“This award constitutes the first LNG liquefaction FEED project for Technip in the US. It is also a true testimony of BG Group and its partners’ trust in our expertise as, after working for them in the subsea and offshore businesses, we are now expanding our collaboration to onshore.”
The deal comes just days after the US Department of Energy approved a bid by the plant to export gas to countries which do not have a free trade agreement with the US.
Technip’s operating base in Houston will carry out the work.
