Firefighters have been battling a spectacular blaze in Texas after an onshore oil rig exploded last night.
Nobody was injured when the EOG Resources rig, close to Highway 90 between Shiner and Yoakum, exploded late last night.
The fire was continuing to burn today following what the company described as a ‘well control incident’.
Houston-based firefighting firm Wild Well Control and volunteer firefighters were helping to control the blaze this morning.
A spokeswoman for EOG Resources said all staff had been accounted for and nobody was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is as yet unknown.
A spokesman for Nabors Industries, which owns the rig at the site of the fire, said the fire had prevented crews from assessing if it could be saved.
