Bayerngas has bought Centrica’s stake in the Babbage North Sea gas field for an undisclosed free.
The three-year-old field, in the southern North Sea, is currently undergoing a second drilling phase, which will increase production before the end of the year.
The deal will see Bayerngas take over Centrica’s 13% interest on the licence, which is operated by E.On.
“Although relatively small, it complements our existing UK production at Clipper South and our major development project, Cygnus,” said Bayerngas managing director Gerry Harrison.
“It also allows us to join strong and experienced partners to evaluate further potential in the license. Together with our existing exploration portfolio, which we will start to test with our first exploration well early next year, we are building a solid UK business.”
