Wood Group said yesterday it was targeting further growth in India after winning a string of new contracts in the country during the past year.
The Aberdeen-based energy-service giant already employs about 150 people in offices in Gurgaon, Pune and Chennai.
It said the recent contracts, worth a total of more than £6.3million, showed its continued commitment to supporting oil and gas and power operators across India.
Group subsidiary Wood Group Kenny (WGK) has been involved in a number of projects in the country, including its commissioning of three major pipeline developments and a gas distribution network feeding seven cities.
It has also won framework agreements to provide a range of engineering and construction management services.
WGK chief executive Steve Wayman said: “We have been established in India for over a decade now, and we expect to see further growth from both domestic and international projects in the near future. The network of pipeline infrastructure in this region continues to expand rapidly.”
Another group subsidiary, Wood Group GTS, has secured two contracts in India to supply its patented gas turbine compressor water wash systems on offshore platforms in the Mumbai region and at a power station in New Delhi.
GTS president Frank Avery said: “Many gas turbine operators in this region are investing in proven technology to help them satisfy a growing demand for energy.”
US-based Wood Group Mustang has completed front-end engineering and design services for an onshore facility on the east coast of India which compresses natural gas produced from deepwater fields.
Wood Group employs about 43,000 people globally, including more than 11,000 on and offshore in the UK. The business has an annual turnover of about £4.5billion.
