The world’s leading energy cities are to gather in Stavanger ahead of 2014’s ONS convention for their next annual meeting.
Mayors and senior officials from 19 other oil capitals around the world will head to the Norwegian oil capital to discuss current issues in the industry.
Stavanger’s mayor, Christine Sagen Helgø, has been voted president of the World Energy Cities group for the 2014-2016 term.
The group has 20 member cities from across the world, including Aberdeen, Calgary, Doha, Houston, Stavanger, Tomsk and Port Harcourt in Nigeria, with the mayors from each city sitting on its board to promote cooperation.
The Danish city of Esbjerg was included in the membership this week, with talks underway to also include Kuala Lumpur.
“Being able to entice with an international event as well as a good academic program, was essential for the annual meeting,” Greater Stavanger chief executive Jan Soppeland told Aftenbladet.
