Innovation in oil and gas technology research and development is still being driven by the North Sea, a leading Technip boss has claimed.
Sylvain Denniel, manager of the offshore engineering division at Technip, told Energy Voice that despite the maturing profile of the region, the North Sea remains a testing ground for many new technologies.
“People think typically it would be the Gulf of Mexico and so on but actually if you look back a lot is implemented first here,” he said.
Denniel was among the speakers at an event at Aberdeen highlighting the Paris-based company’s global projects.
But the speakers agreed the North Sea remains a key hub for Technip’s operations, posing a stimulating “technological challenge”.
“We’re seeing a huge increase in the number of projects and, most importantly, the size of projects going through,” said Scott Campbell, UK business strategy manager at Technip.
“The diversity and complexity of these projects is really huge and the shift change in that means we need to move with that as well.”
