A wildcat well drilled by Det norske oljeselskap off the Gyda North Sea field has come up dry.
The well, around 8km east of the field, was the frst exploration one for the region as DNO looked for oil in the upper and middle Jurassic rocks.
However, the well, drilled to a depth of 3554m by the Maersk Giant, encountered poorer quality reservoir rocks than expected and the well proved to be dry.
