Campaigners against an oil firm’s bid to drill in Surrey have submitted an appeal against the plans.
Europa Oil and Gas won a High Court battle earlier this year for exploration drilling at the Holmwood prospect in the Weald Basin.
Mr Justice Ouseley overturned a decision by inspectors to reject their bid to drill the site near Dorking, but granted leave to appeal to the Leigh Hill Action Group which had been campaigning against the project.
Now the group has taken its fight at the Court of Appeal, it has emerged.
“Europa is an established hydrocarbon producer and has extensive experience and a proven track record in operating onshore UK sites,” said chief executive Hugh Mackay.
“We believe we are well placed to drill a conventional exploratory well at Holmwood and properly restore the site. We will therefore continue to make every effort to obtain the necessary permissions that will allow us to drill a temporary exploration well at Holmwood.”
