Enegi and Black Spruce Exploration are waiting for regulatory approval to start a new drilling campaign in Newfoundland, the companies have announced.
The provisionally called PaP#4 appraisal well is set to be the first of a multi-well drilling campaign on the island’s Garden Hill Field.
The campaign is expected to produce higher quality find than the already flowing PaP#1-ST-3 well in the Aguathuna Formation, based on geological information and seismic data from the field.
If granted the drilling rig approval from the Newfoundland and Labrador regulators, the PaP#4 will be drilled from the existing wellsite using BSE’s Superior 700 UE rig.
The drill would first penetrate the primary reservoir vertically for testing before moving to directional drilling in search of higher quality reservoirs.
“Excellent progress has been made since we announced our farm-in with BSE,” said Alan Minty, chief executive of Enegi.
“We are encouraged that in such a short space of time the BSE team have set up an office near site and have implemented actions to ensure that their drill rig is able to execute the anticipated drilling campaign, both from a technical perspective and a regulatory perspective.”
Following the farm-in agreement with Enegi finalised in July this year, BSE has opened an office in Newfoundland’s Corner Brook in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
“We believe our multi-well campaign in Newfoundland will be the catalyst for an oil and gas industry in western Newfoundland,” said David Murray, chief executive of Black Spruce Exploration.
“We have assembled a very experienced management team to execute the campaign and have already laid the foundation with the opening of our head office in Corner Brook.”
