BG Group says it has found ‘excellent’ results after successfully testing its Pweza gas find off Tanzania.
The field, around 70km off the southern Tanzania coast, flowed at 57million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
The company admitted that figure could have been significantly higher, but for the limitations of the testing equipment.
The Pweza find, drilled by the Deepsea Metro-1 drillship, has boosted BG Group’s predictions of its gas resources in Tanzania to around 13 trillion cubic feet.
“Our acreage in Block 4 around the Pweza, Chewa and Ngisi discoveries is now fully appraised and tested, with resources in the order of 4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas,” said chief executive Chris Finlayson.
“The work done demonstrates the excellent quality of these fields and that they can be developed as a northern production hub to feed a potential LNG export project.”
The company is now preparing to carry out testing work on its Mzia discovery south of the Pweza find.
