Eastern Pacific Shipping has confirmed that one of its product tankers appears to have been hit by a “projectile” offshore Oman.
“We are in communication with the vessel and there is no reports of injuries or pollution,” the company said. All crew on the Pacific Zircon are safe.
The Pacific Zircon is carrying a cargo of gasoil, it said. Eastern Pacific said there was “some damage” to the hull. However, none of the cargo had spilled and no water had got onboard.
The company did not give more insight into the attack. Some reports from the region have said a drone was used to attack the tanker.
There have not yet been any claims of responsibility.
Israeli businessman Idan Ofer owns Eastern Pacific.
The Mercer Street tanker was attacked in a similar way off Oman in mid-2021. This attack killed two people, the captain and a security guard.
Zodiac Maritime, belonging to Eyal Ofer, owned the Mercer Street. Eyal is the brother of Idan Ofer.
A US military report on Mercer Street attributed the explosive-laden UAV attack to Iran. There were two strikes on the Mercer Street, with a day between them.
