Chevron vice president of wells, Kim McHugh, will head the board of the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) as the influential industry body enters its 49th year.
The trade body represents a global roster of 83 major upstream operators, service companies, and industry associations around the globe, including 25 national oil companies from Aramco to Argenitina’s YPF.
Its board will now be chaired by Houston-based McHugh, whose role as VP of wells at Chevron sees her responsible for all aspects of the supermajor’s global drilling, completion, and workover operations.
Described by the organisation as a second-generation driller who grew up in the industry, she has held a series of roles both in the US and internationally and currently serves on the USA Volleyball Foundation, Texas A&M Petroleum Engineering Industry Board, Spindletop Board and Girls on the Run Board.
Ms McHugh has also been a long-serving representative with London-headquartered IOGP, and has been closely involved with its wells expert committee and workforce energy programmes.
She became the Chevron representative on the group’s board and vice chairwoman in 2020.
The association said she will take on the as the organisation concludes the first year of implementing a new strategic direction, and will steer IOGP in a time of “great economic and industry volatility.”
Ms McHugh replaces Fawaz (Fuzzy) Bitar, senior VP of HSE & carbon at BP, who has been chairman for four years.
IOGP said Mr Bitar had been “instrumental” in advancing the organisation through the energy transition and spearheading its modernisation.
“His passion for safety through the standardisation of life-saving rules and process safety fundamentals will drive improvements for years to come. We would like to thank Fuzzy for his significant contributions to IOGP and our industry,” it added in a statement.
The formal handover took place after the group’s 48th extraordinary general meeting in London, on 17 November.
