Production at the Shaikan oilfield in Kurdistan has resumed after a month long shutdown, it has been confirmed.
Operator Gulf Keystone said today it had been given the go-ahead to restart production at the field, in the autonomous Iraqi region, by the Kurdistan regional government.
Production from the field was shut down on September 4 on government orders, after seeing production in its first two months hit 183,000 barrels.
“As previously announced, the Company plans to ramp-up production from the first Shaikan production facility to 20,000 barrels of oil per day, while completing the construction and commissioning of the second Shaikan production facility, which will add a further 20,000 bopd of production capacity,” Gulf Keystone said in a statement.
Work on the second production facility, which will help the company hit a 150,000 boed target by 2016, is due to finish this year.
