Shell has shut the Trans Niger oil pipeline again – just 10 days after it was last re-opened.
The pipeline has been plagued by leaks and oil thefts in recent months, but reopened at the end of last month as Shell Nigeria lifted the force majeure on its crude and gas output.
However, a series of new leaks in Ogoniland has forced them to shut down the line again, deferring 150,000 barrels of crude oil a day in the process.
The cause of the leaks is under investigation, though Shell has largely blamed outages on oil thefts, with vandalism responsible for the last outage in September.
