Production at the giant Kashagan oilfield in Kazakhstan has ground to a halt due to a gas leak – for the second time in recent weeks.
The leak was detected on October 9 and the repair work is still ongoing, the North Caspian Operating Consortium announced today.
Production at one of the largest oil finds in recent decades started early in September, but a similar industrial accident forced it to stop two weeks later.
Days before the second leak occurred the consortium reported an upped production at the rate of 75,000 barrels of oil per day.
