Testing of the second horizontal Tawke field well in Kurdistan, Iraq, produced “a new record rate” of 32,500 barrels of oil per day, announced the field operator DNO.
The Norwegian oil and gas firm has now begun sales from the $12million Tawke-23 well, spudded in May this year.
Each of ten independent fracture corridors penetrated by a 930-meter horizontal section in the Cretaceous reservoir interval flowed in excess of 9,000 barrels per day, the company said.
Tawke-20, the first horizontal well in the field completed in July, set the previous production record at 25,000 bopd.
The company’s drilling operations will now focus on two other horizontal wells, Tawke-21 and Takwe-22, due to be completed before the end of the year.
DNO holds a 55% interest in the field, with Genel Energy (25%) and Kurdistan Regional Government (20%) as other shareholders.
