Gulfsands Petroleum says it expects data capture on its giant Rharb project in Morocco to be finished by the end of the month as it gears up to begin the next phase of drilling next year.
The gas find, which is thought to contain more than 24billion standard cubic feet of gas, is being surveyed to allow the company to pick drilling target for the field.
The first of nine wells on the field has been struck, at the Al Krima site in the north of the country, and will look to evaluate two potential gas-bearing reservoirs.
Drilling is due to finish within the next 28 days, with the Gulfsands looking to tie the well into a nearby export pipeline for immediate export if successful.
“We continue to look for opportunities to expand our business in Morocco but for the moment, our number one priority and focus is on making a success of our Rharb drilling programme and to the early commercialisation of the gas resources we are targeting,” said Gulfsands chief executive Mahdi Sajjad.
