Oilfield services company Petrofac is leading a partnership deal worth $650 million (£405 million) to extend the life of an Algerian gas field.
Together with Italian lump-sum contractor Bonatti, Petrofac will carry out a 32-month engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Sonatrach to extend the life of the Alrar gas field.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Bonatti in order to deliver this project for Sonatrach at the Alrar field,” said Petrofac’s E&C managing director Subramanian Sarma.
“This development builds on Petrofac’s long history of successful execution in Algeria where we have been operating successfully for more than 15 years.”
The well-established field in the south-east of the country has been in operation since 1987. Petrofac and Bonatti’s contract covers development of new separation and booster compression facilities at the site.
Both companies have a long experience of operating in Algeria – the contract is Bonatti’s second EPC contract at Alrar, while Petrofac’s ongoing EPC activities in the country include the southern fields development project for In Salah Gas (ISG) – a joint venture with Sonatrach, BP and Statoil – and the El Merk central processing facility.
