West Africa-focused Lekoil says it has found a second significant discovery at the OPL310 well off Nigeria.
In June the company confirmed it had discovered a significant light oil accumulation at the Ogo-1 well, and started drilling on the planned Ogo side-track (Ogo-1 ST).
Lekoil says testing of the Ogo-1 ST suggests a potentially larger hydrocarbon structure than estimated after the initial drilling of Ogo-1.
The company now plans to carry out wireline testing of the side-track to define the extent of the hydrocarbon intervals.
“I am delighted that the geological and technical work we put into this well and associated sidetrack have been validated with what appears to be a second significant discovery,” said Lekoil CEO Lekan Akinyanmi.
“It also substantiates our prior and extensive work on the Dahomey basin. We look forward to logging and testing the sidetrack before formulating an appraisal strategy.”
