Brazilian shipping company Oceana Offshore has selected the Ulstein PX105 design for a build programme of up to four large platform supply vessels, two of which are on option.
The vessels will be built at the new Oceana Shipyard in Itajai, Brazil, and the first two are scheduled for delivery in April and May 2016, respectively. They are for local service.
The PX105 design with its bulbous X-bow nose is a large 88.9m length overall by 19m breadth platform supply vessel of 4700 tonnes deadweight.
This particular variant has designed accommodation for 23 people. They comply with Petrobras’ PSV 4500 tender.
According to Ulstein these vessels have a high operational window and can take on complex assignments far from shore.
“Our contract with Oceana includes designs and an extended main equipment package, as well as engineering and purchase support,” said Erik Andreassen of Ulstein Design & Solutions.
“We are grateful for the trust placed in us and look forward to entering this project together with a new and future-oriented partner. We wish to thank the teams from both sides that have been working hard together over a long period in order to finally enter into this agreement. We believe Oceana Offshore will be satisfied with their new vessels.”
Oceana Offshore is funded by investment and engineering partners P2 Brazil and BNDES. Their yard, Oceana Shipyard, is currently under construction at Itajai which is located in the Santa Catarina region.
This order represents a tiny part of the build programme mapped out by Petrobras over the current decade as it further develops the Campos Basin, plus the still new deepwater basins, in particular the Espirito Santos Basin.
The build programme for next year alone is huge with a target of 146 vessels to be built in Brazil, as planned in the 3rd Renewal Plan Fleet for Offshore Support Vessels.
It was in 2010 that Petrobras said its build programme for 2011-2020 would comprise: 50 production platforms; 50 drilling rigs, 500 offshore supply vessels and 130 oil tankers.
