The petroleum industry can reap countless benefits for the country that develops it wisely, believes an Abu Dhabi government figure.
Speaking about the regions’ transformation from a traditional pearl-focused market to an international oil and gas hub, Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, director of Tourism Ecosystem at Tourism & Culture Authority Abu Dhabi, said the petroleum finds had spurred the Emirates’ creative development.
“Petroleum is the backbone of this region. Once oil was here, it was wisely invested and utilised,” he told Energy Voice.
“It provided job opportunities for UAE nationals and also for expats as well and has also helped in educating, developing the manpower for Abu Dhabi.”
But environmental concerns and preservation of the region’s natural heritage are also top of the government’s agenda, as the country actively looks for sources of energy fully independent from hydrocarbons, he added.
