An oil refinery worker has been killed after an explosion at a Chevron processing unit this morning.
The blast, at the Chevron Pascagoula refinery in Jackson County, Mississipi, comes less than a day after Chevron workers caused an explosion in a gas pipeline in Texas which forced a town to be evacuated.
Chevron confirmed one of their staff had been killed in the blast, which happened in the early hours of the morning.
Meanwhile more than 700 people have been evacuated from a US town after drillers punctured a gas pipeline and triggered an explosion.
The Chevron drilling crew ruptured the West Texas LPG line near Milford, 40miles south of Dallas.
A column of smoke and flames could be seen from miles away after the incident.
Chevron said it was continuing to depressurise the pipeline until the fire had been extinguished.
“The fire continues to decrease in size as residual product is flared and burned-off,” the company said last night.
“Chevron continues to monitor the nearby 14-inch LPG pipeline and is in the process of mobilizing resources to remove product from it and depressurize the line.”
Nobody was hurt in the explosion, but local authorities enforced an evacuation zone around the site.
