Final plans for the second phase of development on the troubled Breagh North Sea gas field have been delayed again, it has emerged.
Sterling Resources, project partner on the field with operator RWE Dea, said the field development plan had now been put back until mid-2014.
The field is currently shut in, just a month after production started from the first phase on the giant field off Teeside, due to serious problems with the pipeline at the processing plant.
Originally the second phase field development plan was to be submitted by the end of 2013, having already been put back from June this year, in order to give RWE Dea and Sterling time to look at alternatives.
“After discussions with the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, a further extension to June 30, 2014 has been agreed for the submission of the Phase 2 field development plan,” the company said.
“This will allow the partnership to optimise the further development of the field with a view to maximizing value.”
Despite the problems with Breagh, Sterling returned to the black with its third quarter results.
The company posted a net income of £2.8million for the three months to October, compared to a £6.2million loss in the same period last year.
Sterling also revealed that drilling of its proposed Beverley well in the North Sea had been delayed until next year due to a lack of rig availability, while work was now underway on the Cladhan field in the Northern North Sea.
