North Sea operator Independent Oil and Gas says it will look to develop a production hub around the Blythe development after landing two new blocks in the region.
The company picked up two new licence offers on Friday during the 27th Offshore round.
The licences sit around 10km to the east of the proposed Blythe gas field, which Independent has a 50% stake in.
“We are delighted to be awarded this licence which delivers on IOG’s strategy to build production hubs,” said IOG chief executive Mark Routh.
“Subject to a successful technical review and appraisal, discoveries on this licence could be tied back to Blythe.”
The award sees IOG commit to buying and processing 85 square kms of previously conducted seismic data, with two potential gas finds in the region.
