AIM-listed Tower Resources has advised that the nearly completed super-drillship Rowan Renaissance is running late, its arrival offshore Namibia having been delayed by “approximately one month”.
This means the ship is now scheduled to arrive at the well location on March 23 and it is estimated that the drilling of the Repsol-operated Welwitschia-1 exploration well will start within eight days of arriving on location.
The Rowan Renaissance is a new build, dual-stack, 6th generation drillship, being constructed in the Ulsan shipyard, South Korea, by Hyundai Heavy Industries. It is starting its career with a three-year, multi-well contract to Repsol.
The vessel is expected to depart South Korea towards the end of January after trials. En route, it will make two scheduled stops in Singapore and Cape Town to pick up drilling-related equipment.
The Welwitschia-1 prospect is being touted by Tower as being “one of the highest profile exploration wells drilled in Africa during 2014”. Fingers will be crossed at the company which is regarded as having a poor exploration record.
