Technip has extended its long-standing agreement for purified terephthalic acid with BP.
In 2000, the energy industry project management group originally entered into an exclusive alliance for front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for BP’s PTA project.
Under the new agreement, Technip will now also become the exclusive provider for inside battery limit FEED to BP for third-party licensing.
This follows BP’s decision last year to make its PTA technology available for licensing to third parties.
Since the creation of the alliance, around 5million tonnes of PTA capacity has been engineered by Technip. This includes the recently designing a new PTA plant at Zhuhai in the Guangdong province of China.
The extended alliance will be overseen by Technip’s operating centre in Rome.
“The relationship between Technip and BP has been a unique model for almost 15 years, creating mutual benefit for both parties,” said Technip senior vice president Marco Villa.
“We are proud to become BP’s engineering contractor of choice for third-party PTA licensing, thereby reinforcing our long-term relationship with BP and our distinct capabilities as one of the world’s leading engineering contractors.”
