Latin American oil and gas explorer GeoPark has made a fifth new oil find in Colombia.
The firm says drilling and testing of the new Tigana Sur 1 exploration well has been successful. The well, in the Llanos 34 Block, is located in the central Llanos basin in Colombia.
GeoPark operates the block with a 45% working interest.
The Tigana Sur 1 well was drilled to a depth of 3,692 metres, with initial tests indicating a production rate of nearly 1,600 barrels of oil per day.
GeoPark says further production history is required to determine flow rates and the extent of the find.
It follows the Tigana 1 oil field discovery, announced on 11 December.
“Once again the prospectivity of the Llanos 34 Block and the strength of GeoPark’s oil finding team has been demonstrated by the new Tigana Sur discovery,” said chief executive James Park.
The latest find marked the fifth new oil field discovered in the Llanos 34 Block since its acquisition in 2012, he added.
“With this new discovery and the opportunity for further development drilling on the currently producing field, this block has become a major contributor to our growing production base in Colombia,” said Mr Park.
