It has been a dramatic year in the energy industry.
The ongoing growth of renewable energy was marked with controversy over subsidies and key projects being cancelled, while investment in the North Sea reached record levels – yet major firms announced plans to scale back or withdraw from the region.
The shadow of tragedy was also cast over 2013, from the In Amenas attacks in Algeria at the start of the year to the Super Puma accident off Shetland in August which cast new fears over helicopter safety.
