The first exploration well in the Norwegian North Sea 551 licence has encountered wet sands, operator Tullow Oil announced today.
The 31/3-4 wildcat well on the Mantra prospect, located approximately 10km north of the Troll C platform, was drilled to a vertical depth of around 2,082 metres subsea before it was terminated in the Middle Jurassic Brent Group.
The well will now be logged, before being plugged and abandoned, the company said.
Tullow Oil holds an 80% interest in the 551 licence, with Det Norske owning the remaining 20%.
