Up to 150 new jobs are set to be created after engineering group Amec landed a six-year deal to provide engineering services for Nexen’s North Sea operations.
The contract will see the engineering services group providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the Chinese-owned operator’s North Sea assets.
Nexen, bought for more than $15billion by Chinese state-owned CNOOC last year, operates the Buzzard field, along with the Scott platform serving the Rochelle, Scott and Telford North Sea fields.
It also operates the Ettrick/Blackbird fields.
Amec said 150 jobs would be created both offshore and onshore to support the contract, which runs for six years with the option of two two-year extensions.
The work will cover brownfield projects and operational modifications to Nexen’s North Sea assets.
“This is a great opportunity to demonstrate our strength in delivering engineering, procurement and construction services,” said Amec’s brownfield managing director Alan Johnstone.
“We look forward to building on our long-term relationship with Nexen and working with them to achieve safe and reliable operations in the North Sea.”
