Asian explorers UMC Energy are closing in on plans for their permits in Papua New Guinea after securing more than 3000km of seismic data.
The firm, which holds a 30% stake in PNG-focused offshore firm Gini Energy, said data had now been recorded across 3015 line km of the offshore areas.
Work has been carried out by the Dong Fan Kan Tan acquisition vessel for operator CNOOC.
“The 2D acquisition project was completed without incident and ahead of schedule,” said UMC technical director Chris Hart.
“Processing of the 2D data is expected to be undertaken by CNOOC over the coming months.”
