Production has resumed again from Europe’s only LNG plant after being closed at the weekend due to a gas leak.
The Hammerfest liquefied natural gas plant at Snøhvit , near Melkøya in arctic Norway, shut down on Sunday night after gas was found leaking from a pump shaft.
The plant, which handles more than 20million cubic metres of gas a day, resumed operations last night after respressurising.
“We started run-up of the Hammerfest LNG plant Tuesday night, and the plant has now reached stable operation. All necessary repairs on the plant have been completed to ensure a safe and efficient start-up,” said the facility’s chief, Knut Gjertsen.
Statoil, which operates the plant, said it was investigating how the leak occurred.
