Scots engineering firm The Weir Group has landed a £59million deal to support one of Iraq’s largest oil projects.
The two-year deal will see the Glasgow-based firm providing maintenance services for Lukoil’s development of the West Qurna-2 field in southern Iraq.
Engineers from the company will provide mechanical and electrical services, along with maintenance, for the production facilities on the field, including the Mishrif processing plant.
“This substantial contract demonstrates the importance of Weir’s long experience of working in Iraq and our reputation for delivering high quality engineering services in support of the country’s developing oilfield infrastructure,” said Weir chief executive Keith Cochrane.
The field is set to produce around 150,000 barrels of oil a day from start-up, hitting 400,000bod by the end of the year, with the processing facility operational by the summer.
