Lundin Petroleum’s latest attempts to explore the fringes of the giant Joahn Sverdrup North Sea field has ended in disappointment.
A sidetrack well on the Torvastad prospect, targeted as an additional resource for the 3billion barrel field, has failed to yield positive results.
The Swedish firm confirmed today that the sidetrack, drilled by the Island Innovator rig, had found oil but the discovery was of poor quality.
“Wireline logging is ongoing and preliminary results confirm the core observations,” the company said.
“Further wire-line logging is required to confirm the initial results.”
The rig will shortly move to the Edvard Grieg discovery in the Central North Sea to begin appraisal work.
