Former Chevron business manager Hugh McClure is to oversee Dana Petroleum’s £1billion Western Isles development after being named the firm’s new director of capital development projects.
McClure, who joined the company two years ago as health and safety director, has been overseeing the development as project director since last summer.
The new title confirms his role for the flagship venture, along with Dana’s current and future operated projects.
“Hugh’s new role will ensure we have the right level of focus on Western Isles and across all of our future development projects,” said acting Dana chief executive Graham Scotton.
“He will have full accountability for the performance and delivery of our operated development projects.
“This is an important step to exploit resources from our exploration successes and further develop Dana’s capability as a competent and trusted operator.”
The $1.6billion project will see Dana and project partner Cieco developing two oil fields – Harris and Barra – around 160km east of Shetland in the Northern North Sea.
The project, which sees the development of a new floating production, storage and offloading vessel along with two exploration wells and subsea structures, is expected to produce around 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day once it comes online next year.
McClure, prior to joining Dana, spent 27 years with Chevron on projects in the North Sea, USA and Australia, including the $29billion Wheatstone LNG project.
“I am delighted to take on this new role within Dana and look forward to delivering Western Isles and future projects safely and successfully,” said McClure.
