Two global energy giants – Chevron and GE Oil & Gas – are teaming up to develop new technologies for the oil and gas sector.
The Chevron GE Technology Allicance will act as a platform for commercializing early stage technologies between the two firms.
It follows an existing partnership to develop flow analysis technology for wells – the GE SafireTM flow meter – which is now being tested and deployed on Chevron land-based well production lines in the western US.
The Alliance is now managing a coatings project and looking to take on additional high-value projects in the future.
“GE brings its leading manufacturing capabilities, worldwide marketing, distribution and extensive R&D capability not only for oil and gas, but also other business sectors to this alliance,” said Chevron’s chief technology officer Paul Siegele.
“Together, we hope to bring impactful new technologies to the industry.”
GE president Lorenzo Simonelli said the alliance would set about addressing the industry’s technology needs.
“The solutions developed by this alliance will take on even more industry significance given Chevron’s proven leadership in being first to field-test and deploy new technology breakthroughs,” he said.
The alliance is already working with the Los Alamos National Laboratory to develop flow meter products with swept frequency acoustic interferometry metering technology.
Los Alamos National Laboratory chief technology officer Duncan McBranch said; “Strategic partnerships with industry allow us to accelerate breakthrough innovation in these areas.
“As the alliance demonstrates, national laboratories can serve an important role in connecting different industry partners to strengthen the US innovation landscape.”
