African-focused explorer Eland Oil and Gas says it has begin production on the restarted Opuama field in Nigeria.
The field, on the OML 40 licence, is expected to produce around 2,500 barrels of oil per day once stabilised, with oil exported to the Shell Forcados terminal.
“The commencement of production on OML 40 has been much anticipated by management and investors alike, and indeed by all stakeholders,β said chief executive Les Blair.
βIt is a testament to the dedication and hard work of all stakeholders in OML 40 and is a hugely significant milestone for Eland.β
The field, which is operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation was originally shut down in 2006 after 31 years of previous operation.
