Global energy giant GE Oil & Gas is creating 20 new jobs at its north-east subsea base following £4m investment in the business.
The firm says the investment in the Bridge of Don site has improved build capacity with the installation of two 100-tonne cranes, a standalone training school and a extended lab facilities.
“As a centre of excellence for the manufacture and testing of subsea tree systems, our Bridge of Don site is pivotal to the sustained success of our organisation,” said GE Oil & Gas Subsea Systems chief executive Rod Christie.
“Enabling us to meet the growing demands of our customers, this latest investment provides the plant with significant capability improvements, enhancing test and assembly activities along with allowing important safety and technology upgrades.”
He says the company hopes to grow its capacity for delivery of trees through the plant.
“We have a dedicated and highly skilled workforce and this transformation will enable them to grow our production capabilities significantly as we align to the increased demand for our products and services,” he said.
The training school has a classroom area for up to 12 people and workshop areas for practical training sessions in areas such as operation and running of installation tools and pressure testing.
GE says the school will be used to develop the local skills base as well as operating as a hub for talent from other regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa.
While a new advanced technology organisation (ATO) lab will complement the existing lab on the site, allowing more space to carry out product qualification test programmes.
