Aberdeen-based oilfield support firm Glacier Energy says it is gearing up for further acquisitions following the appointment of a new non-executive director.
The firm, which provides specialist inspection, repair and maintenance services to the offshore oil and gas sector, has appointed the chief executive of Wood Group’s engineering division, Mike Straughen, to its board.
Mr Straughen has been an executive director of Wood Group since 2007, heading the engineering division and the group’s safety and environmental activities.
Mr Straughen said: “Glacier Energy Services has successfully built a reputation for quality and service in a short space of time and has grown rapidly through its approach of acquiring companies with significant track record and experience in their fields, and then developing these businesses under its ownership.”
“There is huge potential for all our companies to grow worldwide, and with the opening of the group’s first overseas base in Singapore in 2013, we are well placed to capitalise on opportunities across South East Asia as well as in the home market, the UKCS North Sea.”
The firm’s chairman Scott Martin said: “In three years, we have moved from a standing start to a position of real strength, having acquired four recognisable and successful companies, Roberts, Wellclad, Site Machining Services and Ross Offshore.
“Bringing Mike on board is another major acquisition from our perspective, as we look to consolidate on our success and grow even further.”
Glacier was formed following a management buyout of MB Oil and Gas in 2011.
It is backed by private equity providers Maven Capital Partners and the Simmons Parallel Energy Fund.
