Energy industry project management giants Technip has landed a major contract to provide support for the Åsgard subsea compression project on the Norwegian continental shelf.
The deal will see the French firm providing intervention services on the project, one of the largest in Norwegian waters.
The high-tech subsea infrastructure, due to launch next year, will compress gas to keep up the pressure required to flow gas from the Midgard and Mikkel fields to the Åsgard B platform, enabling billions more cubic metres of gas to be recovered.
The value of the deal was described only as ‘substantial’ by the firm, but is understood to be worth between £80million and £200million over the next three years.
“The Åsgard Subsea Compression project is one of the key subsea technology projects currently undertaken in the North Sea-Canada Region,” said Technip’s Norwegian managing director Odd Strømsnes.
“This award strategically positions us to meet future industry requirements for heavy IMR related work, requiring ability to handle heavier loads in harsh environments.”
The firm’s base in Stavanger will take on the contract from 2015, which will see the advanced North Sea Giant construction vessel being used on a full time charter.
