Dana Petroleum has been left disappointed after its latest exploration work off the Mauritania coast.
The Fregate-1 well has been abandoned after finding only a ‘minor’ hydrocarbon column, the company said today.
Thin but good-quality sands had been found in the early intervals during drilling, but hopes the deeper target would yield better results have not been realised.
Aberdeen-based Dana, which operates the block with partners Tullow, GDF Suex and PC Mauritania, said it was evaluating the findings but added that the well had confirmed potential of light oil reservoirs in the region.
