US company Emerson Process Management (EPM) has won a £4.2million contract to train people how to use a control and safety system it is also supplying for the Quad 204 deepwater project west of Shetland.
EPM, which has its headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, said its DeltaV OTS training would help BP staff “achieve safe, efficient operations”.
It added: “It offers a safe environment for operators and others to learn the best ways to deal with situations they may face in actual operations.”
BP had previously awarded EPM a £12.6million contract to supply control and safety systems for a new floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel to replace the Schiehallion FPSO.
Announcing the latest deal, engineering technology firm EPM said: “Emerson will install a fully operational training replica of the Quad 204 Project in Aberdeen, BP’s regional production centre, with the longer term aim of relocating it to the BP upstream learning centre at Sunbury, UK.
“DeltaV OTS will expose operators to what they will experience in their actual control room, so they can gain experience in an off-line, non-intrusive environment.”
Larry Irving, vice president for oil and gas at the firm, added: “Operator training is an important part of any large project, especially offshore installations.”
