Swiss engineering giant ABB has won a five-year services contract with Nexen for its Buzzard platform in the UK North Sea.
Both companies declined to confirm the value of the contract, but ABB said it was its most extensive contract win in the UK North Sea yet.
ABB will provide healthcare maintenance for the operator’s integrated control and safety system (ICSS) on the platform, as well as a new maintenance management package.
The scope of the contract also includes 24/7 support from a contract specific service desk, spare parts management and training support for third party systems.
Under the contract, ABB will host a full-scale replica of Nexen’s offshore control network in the staging area of its Aberdeen office.
The firm says this will allow it test all software changes ahead of installing the system on site, and better prepare for offshore visits to the platform.
“This contract demonstrates Nexen’s willingness to enter into a long-term relationship with ABB,” said ABB oil and gas service manager for the UK and Caspian, Troy Stewart.
“This is extremely positive and collaboration will be the key to the success of the contract.”
