Scottish oil firm Cairn Energy has plugged and abandoned its JM-1 well offshore Morocco without testing.
Operations on the well, drilled to evaluate the Upper Jurassic and Middle Jurassic reservoirs, started in January but have been dropped when it reached the total depth of 3,711metres.
The drill confirmed the presence of heavy oil in the Upper Jurassic section over a gross interval of 110 metres as originally tested in the 1968 MO-2 well, some 2km from the JM-1.
But the Middle Jurassic section was found to have limited porosity while the company continues evaluation of exiting well logs.
The firm will now move its focus offshore Senegal, targeting the Sangomar, Sangomar Deep and Rufisque blocks of which it is the operator with 40% working interest.
