A joint venture between engineering firms Kentz and Foster Wheeler has secured a two-year deal to support for a major oil field in the Middle East.
The Foster Wheeler Kentz venture will provide engineering, procurement and related services for the super-giant Majnoon oil field in Iraq.
The field, which is thought to contain more than 12billion proven barrels of oil and up to 38bllion in total, is being operated by Shell.
The deal will see the firms will provide a framework for a number of packages of work, covering both new facilities and upgrading existing installations.
“There are some unique challenges in Majnoon,” said Shell’s project director for the field, Tom Hooft van Huysduynen
“Seamless cooperation with Foster Wheeler Kentz Energy Services is not only essential in moving forward in safety but also in the delivery of the Majnoon Portfolio.”
Shell, and Petronas, will operate the field, around 70 km north of Basra, for 20 years after agreeing a deal with the Iraqi government in 2009.
Kentz and Foster Wheeler have secured a two-year contract for the project, including concept selection, with a third-year extension option.
