Plans by oil explorer Circle Oil to begin drilling work in Morocco could be delayed for weeks as heavy rain continues to blight the targeted sites.
The firm had been due to begin work on the Sebou and Lallla Mimouna sites in mid-January, but continuing downpours have hit the region, leaving the work behind schedule.
“As in previous years significant areas within the concession area are subject to flooding which has been known to continue into late spring,” the company admitted in a statement.
“Well proposals are now completed for the first six wells which are located on both permits with the first to be drilled in the Sebou permit.”
However, the AIM-listed firm has been boosted as it prepares to begin drilling the Mahdia commitment well in Tunisia, after good interest from companies for its data room.
The site, close to several producing fields in the region and the Maamoura gas field, has already tested well, with exploration suggesting it could contain tens of millions of barrels.
“Drilling operations offshore Tunisia and onshore Oman approach and we await the end of our frustrating delays in Morocco and being able to start our multi-well drilling campaign,” said Circle chief executive Chris Green.
