EnQuest has handed a second contract to Aker Solutions for its giant Kraken project which will secure a further 150 North Sea jobs.
Aker said it would open a subsea lifecycle services base in Aberdeen after picking up the new deal to work on the £4billion Kraken project.
The field, around 125km east of Shetland, is expected to produce more than 30,000 barrels of oil per day across its 25-year lifespan.
The contract to provide subsea lifecycle services for the field will see Aker set up a new base in Aberdeen to support the project.
“This is another significant win for our UK business and marks the continuation of our relationship with an important customer,” said regional president David Currie.
Last year Aker picked up a £289million contract to work on subsea production systems, including 25 treas and manifolds, with a team in Aberdeen developing control system s and wellheads for the project.
The firm already employs around 2800 people around Aberdeen, with plans to increase that by another 400 by next year.
