BP is to turn to one of the key figures behind its TNK-BP joint venture to oversee the firm’s operations in Russia.
Industry veteran David Campbell has been named as president of BP Russia, bringing several leadership roles in the country to one executive position.
Campbell, who starts the post with immediate efect, was part of the leadership team on the TNK-BP venture between 2003 and 2007.
He has more than 30 years experience with the oil giant, working in a wide range of roles from the Arctic and North Sea to serving as chief operating officer in Iraq.
His appointment comes against the ongoing political turmoil over Russia and Ukraine, with BP the largest foreign investor in Russia’s oil sector.
“I have worked closely with David and know that he has a huge breadth of experience and a deep understanding of the global energy industry,” said BP chief executive Bob DUdley.
“He has significant experience of working in Russia and will play a central role in shaping BP’s future and activities in one of the world’s most important oil and gas regions.”
A quarter of BP’s output comes from Russian operations.
