A North Sea project claims it has improved drilling efficiency by 60% after developing a new system to improve team operations.
Norwegian drilling management firm Ross Offshore and Aberdeen software firm Absoft partnered to develop a new portal for use on North Sea projects,
The firms, which presented their findings at a conference in Denmark today, believe the project could cut the amount of time engineers need to spend on planning and support for North Sea projects.
“Drilling project demands are such that using systems which raise the quality of the work being done is absolutely vital to ensuring the commercial viability of an E&P prospect,” said Andre Nilsen, enterprise resource planning manager at Ross Offshore.
“There are implications for every person on the platform, installation or vessel, and every aspect of their workscopes. They need to be more efficient, more productive, and less costly than in previous decades.
“The bottom line is that the driller needs to be able to look over his shoulder and know that as he starts up the equipment, every step of the job has been done right, from planning and engineering, through to ensuring the right people are on his team.”
The portal is designed to streamline the roles and processes across drilling projects at all stages, reducing the amount of time needed for planning operations and cutting costs.
The firms said the system would reduce the amount of time spent by engineers on projects from 30% to 10%, with end time efficiency increased by 60%.
The findings were presented at the SAP international oil and gas conference in Copenhagen.
